Weight Lose Diets | A Million Ways To Get Skinny

Wherever you look you get swamped with weight lose diets, be it on TV, magazines, the internet and every other way the media can get to us. Whichever website you go to on the internet has at least one ad with promises to make you lose lots of weight in no time, either through diet pills, exercise, surgery, fiber pills, shakes and the works or by only eating a few calories a day and who knows what else.

Personally I sometimes get really tired of being lied to so much. And when you really think about it, whose well being to you think the inventors and authors of all of these programs and wonder methods have in mind? Well of course their own, and that of their wallets to be precise. They don’t care if you actually make yourself sick with their product or program, as long as it gets quick and visible results (that may not last at all).

Sometimes I wonder if we realize what kinds of things we put into our bodies to lose extra weight. There are the natural remedies to lose weight, herbal teas and the likes, (sounds harmless enough, doesn’t it?), some of which have the potential to give you mayor heart problems (yes, I do know people that had to be hospitalized after their consumption). Then there is the worst of all (that I know of), where people apparently have chosen to go with a surefire “diet pill”, containing tapeworm larvae. One heck of a way to lose weight and health and . . . ewwhh!!! Many diet products use chemicals and artificial ingredients to replace the real (and potentially fattening) things in our food. Have you taken a moment to have a closer look at the ingredient list of some of these so-called foods? You’ll need a dictionary to figure out what you’d be eating. Are you sure that such ingredients, even keeping the low-cal factor in mind, are really better for you than reduced amounts of true nutrients?

Rest assured that in none of these programs or products you’ll find a word that will explain that sudden weight loss of several pounds in a couple of days is mostly due to loss of water. Neither will you find any explanations about the reason behind the wow-effect of your reduced waistline in only a day! – a long overdue and healthy bowel movement. You even feel lighter, don’t you?

A pound of body fat consists of 3,500 calories. To lose weight, you either have to ingest fewer calories than your body consumes (500 less a day to lose a pound a week) or exercise to burn off the excess calories. An hour of swimming will burn about 600 calories and so will an hour on the elliptical machine. So when you do the math it becomes quite clear that you don’t just burn off 10,000 calories in a couple of days.

Truth is, when the product or method tells you you’re going to lose three pounds in the first two days, they are telling you a bed-time story (sounds as good as one too). Your scale might actually cooperate with them and also tell you, you lost weight, at least for the first week or so, but really what kinds of pounds were those you lost? I can assure you it wasn’t body fat. Fast loss of weight in very few days usually means you lost water and bowel contents.

Ok, all this talk about what doesn’t work. Well, what does? How will I manage to lose the weight I need to get rid of? If you were hoping for a quick fix that won’t cost you anything but some money, I’ll have to disappoint you. The kind of weight loss you need and should want, the healthy and lasting kind, will only be achieved through an adjustment in your lifestyle. Of course, using a good, healthy method to combine the right kinds of (real) foods to give you a good shove in the right direction is a good idea. But in the end you will have to decide once and for all what and how much food is going to do you good.
