How Much Will I Get If I Claim For Whiplash

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

In addition to being painful, whiplash often affects a victim’s ability to carry tasks at work and enjoy day to day activities. So really we should be asking how much is your pain and discomfort worth financially?

The amount of compensation received is dependent on a number of variables, and your claim is categorised accordingly.

The initial variable to be considered is the method through which you make your claim for whiplash , either directly against the insurer or via a solicitor. If you take direct action against the insurance company you will be compensated in line with the settlement agreement made with that insurer.

If you decided to use a solicitor, then you can claim for two types of damage: general damages, or special damages.

General damages are awarded in relation to the physical suffering and pain incurred as a result of the accident, i.e. the tangible damage, such as a neck injury relating to whiplash. Under general damages you are also able to claim for any reduction in quality of life or emotional pain, alongside a claim for physical injury. Also where these factors lead to suffering from psychological disorders such as depression, then these may also contribute to your settlement.

The Symptoms Of Whiplash Explained

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Whiplash most frequently happens after car crashes where there has been a sudden deceleration, but can also occur during other strenuous activities. Whiplash happens when the soft tissue in the spine is strained or stretched, as a symptom of the body being thrown forwards in a jerk motion.

Likely symptoms of whiplash are ongoing, persistent headaches and feeling stiff in the neck and head. Symptoms usually arise in the first few days following a collision and have in most casers usually pass after several days, or at worst, weeks.

In a few cases the headaches, reduced neck movement, lumber pain, and disrupted sleep will continue, and this more serious condition is referred to as whiplash continuation syndrome.

In some cases whiplash can be dangerous, and it is always advisable to alert a doctor or hospital if a patient experiences memory loss or unconsciousness after a collision. This is even more imperative if the patient has experienced pins and needles in the arms, has severe head pains or feels a sensation of heaviness through the arms.

Cervical Vertigo – What a Pain in the Neck!

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I really liked this kid’s question and his learning capabilities. Recently I was attending a get together, a friend’s nine year old son came to me and said “I still don’t understand the difference between empathy and sympathy,”.

He is an average kid with average absorption rate. But what amused me more is his devotion to understand the world.

As I tried to come up with situations where he could relate because he knew exactly what the person had gone though versus situations where he felt badly but had never personally suffered the same experience, he said, “Before this morning, I would have had sympathy for someone with neck pain but no empathy.”

He also explained that before he slept in a bad position and now has neck pain. And this thing sparked a empathy story about neck pain. I started with a neck pain story and finished with a story of cervical vertigo of another client.

She had been in a car accident two years previously and actually lost consciousness for several minutes. While recovering in the hospital she suffered excruciating pain in her neck as a result of severe whiplash.

How To Take Care Of That Pain In The Neck

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Some years back I had an automobile accident and due to that I suffered from severe neck and back pain. The pain was so unbearable that I had to change how I sat; from seating straight I had to change my pose to a curved one. Car accident can often change life due to this onset of pain that cannot be cured fully.

Friends and clients I meet with similar problem have causes and symptoms that are very much different.

Injury or trauma to neck disc or nerve problems within the neck and arthritis are common cause for these pains. These problems arise also due to sitting for a long time before a computer, stress and also sleeping in an awkward position.

Neck pain can be severe at a time. It can be a sudden or chronic where it can last for more then three months depending on the cause. Some time exact diagnosis cannot be done. While sometime, it is diagnosed as Fibromyalgia for certain pains.

Sufferers experience pains like muscle stiffness, soreness, stiff to the touch, acute pain strong enough to force the neck to turn to one side, pain radiating down the back and/or arms, one or both-sided headaches, pain in the base of the skull, tingling arms and/or fingers and general weakness in the neck and/or arms.
