Saturday, January 16th, 2010

I stand by my belief that anyone looking to find the best dining, golfing and a lot of recreational experiences in Summit County will find them in Breckenridge. The claim is without any prejudice, as it is supported by facts, like the choice of the residents of Summit Country, expressed through a survey conducted by Summit Daily News. Breckenridge ranked on top in the following categories:

Best Ski Mountain: It is for real and if you happen to be in Summit County during winter, you should not miss the chance to experience why it is called the best ski mountain. Breckenridge Ski Resort is the locals most frequently suggested place when asked about golf courses. What makes them proud of Breck?

To start with, in Breckenridge Ski Resort there is appropriate terrain for all skiers, from the greenhorn to the experts who want to put to the test their hard-earned skills. Vail Ski Condo(s) And Historic Roots

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I had a chance to visit Vail, Colorado recently. My buddy who lives in Denver owns a ski condo(s) in Vail. He had to drive up to meet with his new tenants to sign the lease. I tagged along. We got there on a Saturday morning and he let me use his car to drive around as he waited to meet with his new tenants.

It was great driving around in this area. It was springtime and all the trees and foliage was in bloom. I would simply pull off the road whenever I saw a place I wanted to take a hike. I saw up ahead as I was looking for my next hike a large wooden sign. As I came closer I saw a large monument. I parked and walked up to the sign. It read that it was dedicated to the U. S. Army division tenth mountain division formed in’40.

I later learned that the division was formed because the U. S. Infantry was not equipped to do battle in cold climates like Finland and Norway. And if the U. S. Had to fight in the Swiss Alps there was no fighting force available for the battle. The formation at the time was simply called ski troops. Some men volunteered for the force because it sounded like a glamorous idea.

Importance of Wearing Ski or Snowboarding Goggles

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

If you are a skiing or snowboarding enthusiast, then you have to make sure that you have provided sufficient protection to your eyes which can be well done with the help of wearing good quality skiing goggles. Without these, you will be more prone to be harmed by things such as twigs, ice particles, debris and snow flying fast to your face. You also need to take steps to give protection to your eyes from UV rays of the sun as they become stronger after getting reflected from the snow.

Fogging is also a major problem related to snowboarding and skiing goggles, especially if you are a beginner as you breathe heavier and fall more. Goggles with multiple lenses are helpful in avoiding fogging as they allow fresh air to get circulated inside the goggles because of which they remain well-vented. Other options that you can opt for may be chemical treatment done during the manufacturing of the goggles and anti-fogging sprays or wipes that are easily available at the equipment stores.

Branded goggles mostly provide 100% protection from UV rays but they are very costly. If you cannot afford to buy them, you can purchase the ones that provide at least 95% protection.

Transition From Skiing To Snowboarding

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

If you want to snowboard after doing skiing, then the first thing you have to do is to understand the difference between the two sports. The main difference is that a skier stands on two separate skis while a snowboarder stands on a single snowboard. If you have done skiing, then you must already be aware of how it feels to slither across the snow with some equipment attached beneath your feet. Now with snowboarding, you will have to learn how to balance yourself on a single board instead of two skis.

While skiing, you have to put your body weight on both the skis attached to your feet that may stand apart from each other. But in snowboarding, you have to balance your body weight on an edge of the board and keep yourself balanced. As you are not given any poles to hold on to in snowboarding, you may take some time to get used to it. To deal with this, the first thing that you need to learn is how to fall without getting ourselves injured. We may fall several times while learning snowboarding, but we can only become an expert snowboarder if we learn the art of falling safely.

Whether you are a beginner or a rusty snowboarder or skier, you will find these tips extremely useful. Firstly, you should mind the gravitation of the place and never go on a direct way which can be unsafe and also less enjoyable. You should also know how to brake and turn if needed. Another significant thing that you should learn is balancing your body. However it is not easy to keep yourself balanced while running down the mountain, you have to get expertise at it by remaining stable on the way.

Another thing that you should not forget to note is the weather conditions. You should wear proper clothes on your trip so that you can stay warm all through the day. A good skier or snowboarder will also wear a mask or sunglasses to provide protection to his eyes and face. If you do not do so, you may become a victim of snow blindness. It is also important to choose goggles only from a renowned manufacturing company.

Instead of wearing inner layer of clothes made of cotton, try to wear thermal layer on your body. Instead of wearing warm sweaters, choose to wear several layers of clothes and only a single pair of socks. Make sure that the last layer that you are wearing is made up of a wind proof and water proof material.

Renting Skiing and Snowboarding Gear

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

If you are planning to go for a skiing or snowboarding trip and you still have not decided about your equipments, then buying the required gear seems to be the best option, but its cost is perhaps the major drawback. If you are a beginner in the sport, then getting the gear on rent is a much better option for you.

Renting the equipments also makes it affordable for you if you do not want to spend hundreds of dollars for buying the equipments. In addition to that, you will not need to carry the entire luggage on your car or on the plane. Apart from that, you never know when you will go fat or slim, when your gear will no longer fit you perfectly and you will need to purchase a new set. With all these points, renting the snowboarding or skiing gear seems to be a better option than purchasing one.

Now that you have made your mind to hire the required gear for your sport, it would be wise to book it much before your scheduled trip. This is more necessary if you have chosen to go out during the peak season. Waiting till the last day may cause you a lot of inconvenience and hassle, as you will have to search around a lot for the perfect equipment as per your size and requirements.
