How is Resistance Training Beneficial?

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Resistance training are exercises which both strengthens and challenges the muscles. While cardio workouts are intended to boost metabolism by burning calories, resistance training is intended to work the muscles to fatigue so small tears will then form in the muscle tissue. The body then has to repair these tears, which will then build muscles. Other names for it include weight training and strength training.

There are a variety of tools that can be used to get in a great strength training workout:

*Machines

*Dumbbells

* Kettle Bells

* Free Weights

* Bars

* Resistance Bands

* Body Weight

An effective workout that pushes your muscles to fatigue at least 2-3 times a week can deliver great benefits, including these 5:

Increased Lean Muscle Mass

When you challenge your muscles and work them to complete fatigue, you create those small tears in the muscle. This will stimulate the strengthening of the muscle and cause an increase in lean muscle mass.

This doesn’t mean you will look like a professional weightlifter, but it does open the door to the rest of the benefits highlighted here.

Faster Metabolism

Get Improved Weight Loss Results!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

What exactly is meant by intensity? Personal Trainers will often used the term “PRE” which means “perceived rate of exertion”, in other words how hard or how much effort are you putting into your workout. This is something that really only you can judge and it is important to get into the habit of asking yourself this questions when you are training, “how hard am I working?”

What you need to be asking yourself is on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the absolute hardest you could be working out, is ” how hard am I working right now?” You can apply this to any type of training, for example, running, weight training, cycling etc. Of course its not possible or advised to train at number 10 intensity for the whole duration and certainly is not an effective way to train. Interval training is a very good method of dropping body fat if that is your goal. For example, work hard at level 10 for 1 minute then drop back down to say a level 7 for 1 minute then repeat. When you are working with weights ask yourself how hard the weight is that you are using. Could you go harder?

The reason of interval training being helpful is because it allows you to boost your endurance while you cut calories big time. And these are both goals people want from their sessions.

The most common example of interval training entails a treadmill workout that entails walking, jogging, and sprinting within the same 20 minute workout session.
