Long Term Public Storage Solutions: What To Look For

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

You have plenty of options when it comes to long term public storage solutions. To help you decide which is best, you should first make a list of what items you need to store and for how long. When you have the worked out, you will be ready to compare the different possibilities.

One thing that is important to determine is how often you will want to access the unit. If you are just putting things into the space and leaving them there, the location becomes less important. You might be able to pick a place that is a little out of the way that will therefore be less expensive.

On the other hand, if you are planning on taking things out and putting things in on a regular basis, it will need to be convenient. If it is on the way to other places you go regularly, such as when you do errands, even better. A cheaper place that is out of the way will end up costing you extra money in gas.

Ways To Increase Your Work Output

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

If we’re going to spend the time working, we might as well do it as efficiently as possible. One would think that the logic should follow this way, yet many people neglect to work at their maximum output.

It saddens me when I see people who don’t work to the best of their abilities every day and, thus, I have put some measures in place so that I do my absolute best each work day. As a result, my life has greatly improved professionally.

Let’s discuss some of the things that I have instituted in my day-to-day life and how you can greatly improve your work performance by following them. Do this on a regular basis and see how quickly you become more efficient at doing your job.

The first thing to keep in mind is how important setting goals is. By not having any, one tends to do their work giving no thought to what it might result in.

Make some targets for yourself, no matter how big or small. I actually happen to find that setting smaller goals gives me a very attainable thing to work towards, always keeping my interest level high. Then, reward yourself once you’ve hit a goal.

Do You Want A Central Innovation Team?

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Central innovation teams are a model which have been well adopted in many industries. Pharma, for example, is typified by large development budgets which tend to be centralised in teams set up for the purpose of innovating drugs. In banking, as another example, there will regularly be many New Product Development teams who dream up new things for specific business lines. Even in Government, there is an increasing focus on central innovation in the never-ending pursuit of efficiency and cost savings.

Understanding the reason is not difficult. Central teams are simple to establish, and very easy to measure compared to alternatives which rely on an “innovation culture”. It is easy to point to such teams and say “here is how we do innovation”. These are teams which make executives feel good about their innovation efforts, because when you can nominate specific individuals and assign accountability, you know things are being done.

In this model, the innovation team is the body that tends to decide which innovations will be undertaken. They will typically control an investment fund of some kind, and will be accountable for making decisions which can drive forward the innovation agenda. If they are much use, they will agree to be responsible for some big financial return numbers which justify the investments they are making.

The Easiest Ways To Overcome Procrastinating

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

We all procrastinate at times, whether at home or at work. We try our best to avoid it but there’s times it simply gets the better of us. Although we feel powerless to resist procrastination, there are some things that you can try.

Your first step is to actually admit to yourself that you do it. There’s no great shame in it, you’re simply acknowledging the fact that you do procrastinate.

Procrastination can effect both your working and personal life. Did you leave applying for promotion until it was too late and miss out to a much younger, inexperienced colleague who’s now your boss? Maybe a girlfriend got sick of your procrastinating regarding marriage and moved on to someone else.

Don’t get all melancholy and start bemoaning what you’ve missed out on, that’s gone now. What matters is how you will stop yourself from doing it in the future.

Now for the biggie, stopping your habit of procrastinating. There isn’t a magical pill or potion that can stop this habit, you yourself have the power. However nasty the task may seem, take a deep breathe and get it over with, it will never be as bad as you imagined it to be.

An Innovation Culture? Does Such a Thing Exist?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Innovation Culture is another of those thorny innovation issues which will likely engender significant argument in any organisation. The question really boils down to this: is innovation part of everyone’s day job, or is it something which should be handled by a central team?

There is an argument that in a truly innovative organisation, a pervasive culture of support ensures new things can be started and brought to market all by themselves. People believe that in this case you wouldn’t need a central innovation team at all, because innovative employees are empowered and motivated to make any number of changes an organisation needs to stay at the front of its segment.

To be honest, I am yet to see any organisation with a culture that does this. On the other hand, there are plenty of companies who empower their staff to be innovative, whilst also putting in processes and systems to make sure the empowerment leads to something substantive.

Organisations that say they want an “innovation culture” regularly fail to take active steps to turn ideas into reality, though. They somehow imagine that, if only they had creative enough employees, they will get innovation for “free”.
