Japanese Belief About Zodiac Symbols

Japanese people think that zodiac symbols have a lot to do with the life of a man and these symbols have a remarkable position in their history and current life. Until today, the belief based on the superpower of zodiac symbols dominates them. The root of these symbols is the Chinese practice of dividing time into 12 separate blocks.

Method of dividing time and direction into different blocks and naming them with different animal names was imported to the Japanese culture. There are twelve blocks of this kind and it is believed that these units and the animals connected with each of them have a consequential role in deciding one’s personality and character.

The rat is one of the most main zodiac symbols of Japan. People born in the rat zone are considered to be energetic, honest,reliable and beautiful. Along with this they are considered to be perseverant and hard workers while being short tempered.

The Ox is another eminent zodiac symbol. Tolerance is one of the key virtues of the people born in the year of the ox. They are also considered to be mentally alert and articulate speakers. A World Series Game That Remains Timeless

It has been more than 23 years since that famous baseball game that the fans of the Mets will never forget and the fans of the Red Sox would like to forget. This game will never be forgotten and it was a crazy night in baseball history.

The New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox met in a World Series during the 1986 baseball season. Both had been the best teams in their respective leagues, and the stage was set for a great series.

To the surprise of many, New York lost its first two games at home, going down pretty easily to a confident Red Sox team. Things didn’t look too promising for the Mets and their fans.

But, lo and behold, the Mets luck changed and they won the third and fourth games to make the series even. However, the Red Sox then got the victory in the fifth game and had a great chance of bringing the series to an end with a win in the sixth game.

It looked like this was about to occur. Boston led the game by two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning and the Mets had no one on base. The champagne bottles were corked and the game was all but done.  Read more...

Finger nails are very important as far as first impression go when we look at somebody’s hand. So it’s not surprising how much care and attention people give them. It’s not just the fashion conscious people who do it but everybody who wants to have nice looking hands.

The act of taking care of ones hand is called manicure, which in its Latin roots mean, manus which means hands and cura to take care. Anything that is done to take care or make ones hands look nice is called a manicure. There are many a salon that do only manicures and things related to hand care.

For thousands of years there has been an interest in people to take of their finger and toenails something that happened in some Asian countries, there is archeological proof that women and men gave special attention to their hands and feet. They polished and took care of their fingernails with great care.

In present times we take for granted at the wide variety of choices that are available for the upkeep of ones hands and nails. There are different types of tools for different tasks of nail upkeep. Ranging from the well known tattooing to the incredible art form of Origami which makes amazement by just folding some papers, Japanese people have proved their craftsmanship in different ways. Those wonderful sculptures and alluring paintings, all have got a Japanese touch of aesthetic sense.

The Founding Age spans from the NHL corporation in 1917 till an enormous drafting for World War 2 in 1942. The 6 groups that stayed adopted a new moniker and the second time of the NHL commenced.

The growth Time of the NHL lasted from the beginning of season 1967 until the end of the season in 1992. In this timescale, the NHL grew from the first 6 groups up to twenty 2. This year proved to be a prospering time for the NHL and still ranks as it’s highest scoring age. Also in the time, the concern over player safety grew and helmets became critical starting in the 1980-81 season. In this time, the NHL also became concerned in world hockey playing the 1st time being the 1972 top Series. The 4th time of the NHL is the Modern Time. This age started in 1993 and is still continuing today.

The original six is a phrase used to describe the six groups that made up the nation’s Hockey League in the Original 6 time, the twenty five year time frame between the 1942-43 season and NHL expansion in 1967. The original six groups of the NHL are the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens.  Read more...

The Sash Window Story

Sash windows in the form of very basic timber shutters have a history dating back as far as the thirteenth century.

It was not until roughly the end of the sixteenth century that glazed versions started to appear that where horizontally sliding windows, and during the mid seventeenth century vertical sliding sash windows arrived, mainly in France.

Fearing the guillotine French nobility came to England and brought with them advances in sash window designs from across the channel.

The first recorded glazed sliding sash window was installed for the Queen Mother who had just returned from France with a highly skilled French joiner who pushed for the complete renovation of Somerset house in London.

The development of the sliding sash window is not very clear and numerous theories circulate. It is commonly believed that a weighted and balanced version was actually invented in England.

As an updated re-make of the original vertical sliding window glazed with small squares of glass and very thick glazing bars due to the delicate and primitive glass available at the time would have made it a very heavy window to operate.  Read more...

Face Cards in a Deck of Cards: How Did They Evolve?

Etienne de Vignolles, called La Hire, a French military commander who fought alongside Joan of Arc, happened to be a card craftsman. He was so impressed with the legendary maid’s heroism that he replaced the knight in a deck of cards with a dame. Catholics had no objection to depicting human form on cards, decorating cards with Judeo-Christian motifs. The King of spades was King David, with the trophy sword in hand and his sling on the bottom of the card. King of clubs was Charles the Great, King of diamonds was Julius Caesar, and King of hearts was Alexander the Great. The four kings represented the four sources of western civilization.

Today’s Queens and Jacks did not follow such a consistent path. The queen of spades represented the goddess Athena, which could also have been a representation of that kindred warrior, Joan of Arc. Rachel depicted the queen of diamonds whose husband, Jacob, waited around for 14 years to marry her. Somewhat disturbingly, the queen of hearts represented Judith, who quite unromantically cut off the head of Holofernes. The queen of clubs did not follow this same pattern. She represented a collection of images that formed Argine, an abstract favorite of kings, whose name appears to be an anagram of “regina” (queen). This also could be a possible reference again to Joan of Arc, as Charles the Great, the French Catholic major domo, was the king of clubs.  Read more...

The Past Of Cleaning Windows In The UK

The history of window cleaners in the UK started thousands of years ago with the development of windows and the perfection of glass making. As windows became more popular it became more important to develop ways of cleaning them. Initially only rags and water were used and for a long time this remained the case. However, the first specialised tool to be used for window cleaning came about as some realised that a tool used in stables to clean horses could also be put to glass. The horse sweat squeegee therefore became the first tool used specifically for the cleaning of windows.

as the 20th century moved on there were far quicker advancements in window cleaning products as science and manufacturing processes advanced. In 1936 the single blade window cleaning squeegee was created that helped to eliminate water spots and streaks on windows.

as time went on further advances in the detergents used for window cleaning were made. Soap became redundant as it tended to leave streaks and with the development in the car industry of tinted windows, it became necessary to create ammonia free products that were not as corrosive.  Read more...

The Algarve through the Years

Like the names of many other areas in Portugal, the Algarve is a derivative of an ancient Arabic word which means “the west”, and also like many other areas in the country, the Algarve has a long and colorful history. For thousands of years people have been drawn to the area for its strategic military position, influential ports and access to vital shipping lanes.

The area was first settled by the Conii, a pre-Roman people from the Iberian Peninsula, before the 6th century, BC. The Phoenicians had previously established multiple trading ports along the coastline, and the Conii flourished until the Carthaginians pushed them out and they in turn were defeated by the Romans who, in the second century BC, held fast and developed the area.

By the 5th Century the Romans has been defeated and pushed out of the Algarve by the Moors. The Moors named the Algarve the Al-Garb. The moors lasted in the Algarve until they were taken by the Christians , and the king of Portugal ALfonso the 3rd began to call himself the King of Portugal and the Algarve

The city of Lagos on the west coast of the Algarve became the capital due to its excellent maritime position for trade.  Read more...
