Importance Of International Students And The ESL Program In The Life Of The Foreign Teenager In The USA

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Try to imagine attending a high school in a foreign country with very limited language knowledge. Even just imagining is hard! And I have just done that when I moved from Hungary to the USA! If you are planning on doing something similar read on!

When you are in a new place the key thing to remember is not to be introverted! Try to answer questions during classes (I know it’s hard when you can’t speak the language yet but try your best!), ask your classmates about the school, the classes, the teachers, the extracurricular activities they are involved in, what sports they are playing. This last one is always a winner since especially in the USA almost each and every student is involved in a team! So a perfect way to integrate, get to know people and make friends is to choose a sport and be part of a team! Also don’t be afraid to invite the people you might like to your home to hang out!

Finding A Toronto University House

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

The surrounding residential areas of Toronto University offer private homes for rent to students and faculty at Toronto University. Many residences are listed with the realty agencies and student housing boards.

Time and effort is what it takes to find the house that will fit your budget and your needs. By narrowing your search down to a few houses, you give yourself the opportunity to fully check these properties out. By using the Toronto Housing Violation search engine, you will be able to select a home that has a good maintenance history. There are several other things to consider when choosing a house to rent as well.

Working locks and smoke detectors are vital particularly if there will be many people living in the home with you. Safety is the primary priority here. Make certain you are comfortable with the neighborhood where the home is located. Not all areas are safe, but taking that into consideration, you can find a house that has little or no history of the kind of behaviors that can make you feel unsafe by putting in effort and doing your due diligence about the area you are looking at.

Taking The GED On The Internet

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Many people are interested in receiving their GED (General Education Development) diploma in the easiest manner possible. Often people want to know whether they can take GED classes online or from their home. There are many options for getting your GED, but first you need to understand some of the basics.

The GED is intended to measure the academic skills of a student in comparison to an average graduating high school senior. The exam covers five subject areas typical of a high school curriculum. A student receives a GED if they score higher than 60% of graduating high school seniors from around the country.

The American Council on Education creates and manages the GED exam and its requirements. Some states and jurisdictions, however, may have differing requirements including English proficiency tests or civics exams. If you pass the GED exam you receive a certificate which means that you have demonstrated that you have met the General Education Development test requirements.

Currently, students seek a GED for a variety of reasons. The test, however, was originally created for World War II veterans returning from the war. Today’s students are looking for a GED because: they have immigrated to the US; they have left school due to pregnancy, need for work, or personal issues; or they just didn’t finish high school.

Construction Worker: Entry Level Positions For High School Graduates

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

A career as a construction worker is an excellent position for those who have no desire to go through extensive educational schooling beyond the high school level. For a job at a construction site, the worker may just need to show up. Other positions need a high school diploma or specialized trade classes. Apprenticeships are a common way to get advanced experience and special skills that translate into better positions.

Union membership is helpful for about fourteen percent of construction site jobs. If you have a high school diploma and are willing to work, a manual labor job might work for your career. The application process might be helped by doing temporary work for experience or by part time work.

Every possible type of building site is in need of workers to do the basic jobs. Building sites for high-rise office buildings and for strip malls need workers. Construction jobs can be found in highway building, bridge building and tunnel excavation. Private homes in a subdivision also require common laborers to help the more skilled workers.

Learning Speed Reading Techniques

Monday, November 30th, 2009

You already own the greatest reading acceleration device that has ever been developed. It is simply your hand that will help you read faster. People have spent thousands of dollars attempting to increase their reading speed. But no inventions or machines can do what your hand and your pacing finger can do for you to improve your reading speed — once youve been trained in our 4 special techniques.

What do your eyes do while you are “trying” to read? If you’re like most people, your eyes are jerking around, looking, searching, and bouncing here and there. Then they will fixate for a second or two and maybe move on again causing your brain to wonder what you’re doing. Sound familiar? Untrained readers go through this often.

Does this sound familiar? This is because untrained readers go through something called, regressions. When you regress, or go back over what you’ve read, you just ‘try’ to read but don’t get anywhere. I will personally teach you, how to control and accelerate your coordination for speed reading. We call it pacing. And it’s only one of the ways we teach you to read faster in Speed Reading in Only One Hour

Study the Mechanics of Speed Reading

Monday, November 30th, 2009

The human mind is an extraordinary force of which we only use a very small portion. In this book, “Speed Reading in only One Hour” I will demonstrate how to tap some of that unused power and use it for your own success in high school, college, and life.

Your brain can understand from 10,000 to 50,000 bits of data per minute; one bit equates to one word. Although this information comes from old statistics (1980’s),. based on recently developed speed reading technology, and strides in various types of learning technology, you can achieve phenomenal reading speeds.

In the US the average HS grad, when tested, reads about 250 words per minute. The average US college student reads at an average of about 300 words per minute. But, no matter what your starting reading speed when you are tested, don’t worry, it is only the beginning. Can you imagine what an advantage you will have to be able to read over 100% faster than you had before? 200% 300% — The possibilities are limitless.

Just use these hints and youll improve your reading speed:

You can read lines of text, more easily, by reading groups of words at one time than reading a single word, and your reading speed increases when you just widen your eye span (peripheral vision).

1. Techniques will teach you have to activate hand-to-eye coordination, then you’ll be speed reading quickly and immediately. Increase your reading abilities for business or personal use with just a little practice. You can double, even triple your current rates of reading without hurting comprehension or retention.

Different speed reading techniques for different kinds of reading material:

1. Fiction, especially the romance novels. Try speed reading a hot and passionate love scene. You can’t! I don’t speed read romance novels. I don’t know anyone who does.

2. Non-Fiction. Speed reading is perfect in this dimension. Where there is something to learn that is not based on hot emotions speed reading is great. And it comes in multiple forms. Newspapers with narrow columns, magazines, with slightly wider columns, books, computer screens, and in the mail and email.

Enlisting In An Online School

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Millions of high school students throughout the country are currently enrolled in some type of online schooling. An online or virtual high school is an alternative to the traditional brick-and-mortar learning style and system. Students can use online schooling to make up missed credits, repeat courses, or even earn a complete high school diploma through the internet.

There are actually different kinds of online and virtual high schools. The online public schools are publicly-funded and are cheaper to residential clients. The best kind of online school is that which is affiliated with a university. Because they offer higher quality courses due to the support they receive from established colleges.

An independent virtual high school offers greater flexibility for families. Because they do not have to meet all of the standards required of public schools, families are able to fit in the same schooling in fewer hours a day. There are also university-affiliated online schooling programs that often offer the higher quality courses due to support from established colleges throughout the country.
