How Does Air Travel Affect People with High Blood Pressure?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I was reading an online news article the other day about a certain well known director who was denied a seat on a plane because he was to big (according to the airline’s restrictions) to take up only one seat and they were overbooked. He had to take another flight.

He managed to turn it into a joke of sorts (photographing his puffed up face on the next flight and posting it online) of the situation but I assume it had to be somewhat embarrassing, if not humiliating for him.

As I’m always fond of connecting health related issues, I started thinking about the issues that may affect a over weight person when he travels in air apart from self esteem. Earlier, i have also posted many articles on air travel and vertigo.

What about high blood pressure? What ill health effects do people with high blood pressure, or hypertension, suffer and simply dismiss as side effects of travel?

What affects the high blood pressure people? They should be concerned about long waiting lines, delays, security checks and the stress air travel brings. If you are taking medication for blood pressure and it is in control then there is no proof that the cabin air pressurization will affect you.

Gout And It’s Associated Risks

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I can recall a conversation among adults once when I was a child concerning a family member of some friends of my parents. I can vividly remember them discussing his big toe and that he couldn’t even bear the weight of a sheet on top of it.

While I didn’t understand the disease at all, I can remember being confused and a little frightened about a medical condition that could hurt so much.

The first place the gout forms will be in joint below the big toe. This is known as rich man medical condition. Gout is a kind of arthritis that appears all of a sudden.

Gout’s symptoms are as follows red, tender, swollen and hot joints, ligaments and tendons of the toes, feet, hands, ankles and knees. Gout gives pain continuously for many hours, sometime even up to 24 hours.

Generally, people who are attacked by gout will be in pain for many days and in some cases the pain will for many weeks. After the first attack, it will follow up it with more regular attacks, with more pain and this time on more joints.

Resolution Of High Blood Pressure Without Drugs

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

From the vast number of words that have been written about high blood pressure and treatment, one may get the idea that the subject is of great concern, important and confusing. Yes, confusing – who can possibly read the over 48 million listings that appear on Google just on the subject “high blood pressure medications”? Much less sort out what is true and important, from what is false or unnecessary?

Blood pressure is calculated to measure the pressure of the blood against the walls of your arteries. It measures the amount of blood pumped by the heart and the amount of resistance to the flow of the blood. If you have high blood pressure, the heart is working too hard against arteries too narrow. Exactly what numbers signify high blood pressure have changed over the years, and sometimes vary depending on who is being the authority.

The nurse will check your blood pressure on every visit to a doctors office. So, although there may be no symptoms of high blood pressure, anyone who ever visits a doctor or nurse would easily be able to find out if they had that condition.

Natural Cure With No Side Effects

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

High blood pressure is called silent killer. High blood pressure cannot be detected easily even though it affects many parts in the body.

Keeping blood pressure under control is very important. Heart and kidney are the major organs that are affected most by high blood pressure.

In a recent study it has been found that using some soft approach can reduce the mortality rate in this age group. The treatment that is used for blood pressure to old aged people considered heavy on them. Right now people over age 80 with hypertension receive the same treatment as other patients. This is not good for their health.

The recently updated Cochrane review shows that trying to achieve a target blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg may be ‘excessively aggressive’. The review looked at a couple of clinical trials that were conducted among hypertension patients above the age of 80. The approach that reduced mortality rates significantly was the one that was more conservative with a lower number of drugs and dosage.

The side effects and complications associated with any kind of conventional treatment are well known. The national heart, Lung and Blood Institution reported that blood pressure drugs increase the risk of cancer.
