A Guide To Healthy Living

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Up and until very recently I was someone who would read just about everything I could find on health. To be honest it was driving me absolutely crazy, you see, I am a health fanatic. It’s probably easy to understand because I was hugely overweight and after losing it and getting as shape back then perhaps you can understand why someone becomes obsessed with staying that way.

Any articles on health I could find to help with my fitness, diet, supplements to help prolong life, I would read them. But nowadays, when I read an article on health, it just fills me up with anxiety, After all, one article on health will say one thing, another day and another article says something else. Take soy for example, one group of scientists tell you it’s good for you then another group say don’t touch it because it promotes the development of female hormones in men amongst other side effects. I swear all I want is to find the perfect diet, the perfect exercise routine, and the perfect lifestyle to keep myself as healthy as I can for as long as I possibly can.

Do you want to know the long forgotten secret to health, longevity, and a pretty body? Truthfully, it isn’t a secret, but it’s been forgotten in today’s busy speed, and it can be summed up in just one statement : treat your body using the respect it deserves.

Your life is the most wonderfully perfect piece of engineering in the world-more complex than the most powerful electronics, more valuable than a ten-carat diamond. Your health is your only greatest feature, and you owe it to oneself to look after it.

Luckily , this isn’t a complex task. The formula is easy : digest sensible portions of quality food, strive for an active way of living, and love every second as the gift that it is.

Proper Nourishment does not have to be a mystery, although there’s a multi-billion dollar industry geared to making it appear to be just that.

If we eat reasonable food, the type our elders would have recognized as food-and we digest it in reasonable portions, our nutritive needs will be met. If questioning, a multivitamin can round things out. Nibbling continually throughout the day will promote good selections in the both the quality and amount of food you consume.

How To Quickly Loose Weight With Yoga

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

There are lots of motives for doing yoga. Clarity of mind, a feeling of oneness, relaxing with your personal time, and transforming your body to name a few. Most may think of yoga as just doing stretches, but it is so much more than that! If you’re a bit overweight and looking to get rid of those extra pounds, yoga might be your best one-way ticket to a healthy mind and body. Here are 5 reasons why you should do yoga:

1. If you have motivation issues, like myself, once you get in class, you’re committed! Most classes are 1 – 11/2 hours long and yes, you do have the option of leaving, but why would you want to waste your money? Compare that to exercising on your own, where you can stop at any time. Of course you should practice safely and take breaks when needed, but being surrounded by everyone else pushing through it is great motivation to continue.

2. Yoga has the benefit of working both your muscles and giving you a cardio workout at the same time. Compare this to running in place on a treadmill, then lifting heavy weights, and the benefit of yoga is obvious. You get it all in one exercise. On top of that, when you’re tone and have built up some muscle from doing yoga, you will burn calories while you sleep!

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Laparoscopic adjustable banding is a safer, less invasive alternative to gastric bypass surgery. Laparoscopic surgeries are also referred to as “key hole surgery” in which two small incisions are made as opposed to a long incision made by a scalpel. Using a small tube and microscopes, very small surgical instruments are inserted through the incisions in the body to perform various types of surgery. Adjustable banding of the stomach creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach, anywhere from 15-50 ml. This slows food from passing into the lower part of the stomach, allowing the patient to feel full and satisfied on a much smaller portion of food. From the band itself extends tubing that is connected to a port which lies just below the surface of the skin. this is used for adjustments made after surgery, by adding or removing saline depending on a person’s individual needs.
