In this society today, more and more people are becoming addicted to different things. Sometimes these addictions can lead to death if not treated before a person is overtaken with their illness. In order to help a person who has an addiction, one must know the causes and effects of addiction.
What is Addiction?
How do you know if your loved one will become addicted?
How do you tell if someone is suffering from an addiction and needs help? Just because someone has a few drinks every weekend or goes to a casino to play some black jack does not necessarily mean that they are suffering from an addiction. So how would you determine someone who really cannot control their actions from someone who is just out for a fun time? When someone becomes addictive, they start to go through a psychological and physical change.
If you find a loved one is spending an unhealthy amount of time on the computer and you see that they are playing poker, or betting on sports or horse races, you may want to have a discussion with them. Tell them you are concerned, explain what could happen if they lost control, and be available with the number of a support group in case your loved one does not take heed and starts to spiral down into the danger zone.
