Considerations To Make When Buying A Filing Cabinet

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Though filing cabinets may all look the same, each model differs in ease of use and function. As a time proven method of safeguarding valuable files, the trusty filing cabinet had little but significant changes since it was first created during the last 1800’s. The filing cabinets of today, though still retain the shape of old, have much better materials, and are much more resistant when it comes to abuse.

Here are some tips to consider before buying a filing cabinet.

Different Filing Cabinet types

When it comes to filing cabinets, there are a couple of types to choose from in the market. The conventional file cabinet is referred to as a vertical file cabinet. This type of file cabinet can have a couple to five drawers per cabinet.

Filing cabinets can also come in lateral designs. Comparing to the standard design this type is wider. This allows different ways to file your documents. The lateral filing cabinets double as wall partitions because it does not have the depth of a traditional cabinet.

Vertical file cabinets are more ideal in office spaces with limited wall space. Even though vertical cabinets do not store as many files compared to a lateral cabinet, they consume less wall space. Featured drawer depths ranges from 15 to 28 inches.

Does Your Kitchen Need To Be Modernized?

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

If your kitchen is out-dated and you are considering a remodel, the best place to start is deciding a budget and how you will spend it. Some people opt for an extreme route that involves removing a wall to create a larger kitchen with an open, more modern feel. Generally speaking, though, you probably will make some small changes to improve and modernize the look and functionality of your kitchen. Below are some remodeling suggestions:

1) Kitchen granite counter tops are now what is “in” as practically no new home is being built without granite. There are several reasons for this, the most obvious one being that granite comes in all sorts of colors and looks absolutely great. Another reason is that granite is one of the best surfaces you can get for cleanliness. Granite can be made very smooth on top and this leaves no minute nooks and crannies for germs to gather as they might do in other counter top materials. Installing a granite counter top in your old kitchen is one of the best ways to make an immediate impact for the better.

Design The Perfect Kitchen

Monday, January 4th, 2010

When designing a kitchen it is important to know some facts about the recommended measurement to ensure that you can work as easy as possible. This article gives you 10 important guidelines for your kitchen design project.

1. The work triangle, which is the space between the refrigerator, sink, and stove should be 26′ or less with none of the sides longer than 9′, or less than 4′.

2. In kitchens smaller than 150 sq. ft., opt for at least 13′ of base cabinets, 12′ of wall cabinets, and 11′ of countertop. In kitchens which are larger, go with at least 16′ of base cabinets, 15 1/2′ of wall cabinets, and 16 1/2′ of countertop.

3. Plan you work aisles no less than 42″ wide if you are one cook and 48″ if you are more than one in the kitchen.

4. Plan you sink so you have at least 24″ of counter space on one side and 18″ on the other.

5. To have the best landing when you are unloading groceries, you should have at least 15″ of counter space on the handle side of the standard refrigerator. If it is a side-by-side model, have the space on both sides. Or maybe even better, have a landing area directly across (no more than 48″ away) from the refrigerator.

Buying a Cabinet, Stand or Bracket for LCD Plasma TVs

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Shop for a sturdy cabinet. Dovetail joints are a good sign; inspect for other signs of quality workmanship. If shopping in a store, give the stand/cabinet a nudge and see what happens. If you’re shopping online, sift through reviews and watch for complaints as to lack of sturdiness.

As far as materials, keep them to a minimum. If your room primarily contains wood, shop for wood of the same type. (In other words, if you started with maple, stick with maple.) Steel and glass pair well so if you started with one, the other will be a match. Keep within the same colour palette; though steel and brass are both metals, they don’t pair well.

Shop for something that wont consume the allotted space. A cabinet or armoire will be very likely to visually devour the space, particularly in smaller rooms. Darker colours will also be more dramatic so if you decide to go with a darker colour in a smaller space, it is a good idea to choose a smaller piece.

Kitchen Redesign Options For A Big Impact

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

If you are trying to do a quick update or overhaul of your kitchen, there are several areas where you can get the most bang for your dollar. The kitchen is usually a central room in the house and visible from several different rooms. The color you paint your kitchen is, therefore, something that can make a big impact right away.

Kitchen colors might be different from what you might choose for the den, basement, or other rooms in the house. Since the kitchen is often visible from other rooms such as the dining and living room, the color you choose should flow with the colors for those rooms. Consider the color carefully because you dont want to have to repaint a second time because the color wasnt right.

Besides changing the paint color in your kitchen, the second thing that will bring the most impact is the flooring. When considering kitchen floor ideas, you need to choose the right surface that will be best for your needs. Not all kitchens will look right with a wood floor or a tile floor so you need to choose something that will be the right color and surface texture. Bigger kitchens might have a floor made out of wood that looks great when that same floor might look awful in a different kitchen.

What Are Metal File Cabinets?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

If you want a file cabinet that can last for years and is extremely durable, then you want to be looking at metal file cabinets. If you’re looking for a long term solution, only metal and wood are durable enough to make for quality file cabinets. Those that are made of wood are definitely more pricey than those that are made of metal, and in some cases they can be harder to locate as well. A steel model will do nicely for any of your needs, and they will not do much damage to your budget either.

The normal styles of metal file cabinets are moderately heavy for a bit of protection and have locks on the drawers to keep prying eyes away. However, there are more durable styles that can resist against moderate impacts as well as fire. These are more expensive, but if you are worried about your important documents then it might be better to put a little extra money towards a high quality model. These kinds are usually considered specialty items, so you can usually not find them at your local office supply retailer or department store. Stores geared towards industrial supplies are more likely to have them, and there are hundreds of websites offering heavy duty filing cabinets.
