Mac and Me: Sort of an E.T. copy in reference to Mac, an outer space being, and his plight in suburban L.A. It is more of a television advertisement than a film. There’s a production number set in a McDonald’s, and the alien lives on Coca-Cola. Cast includes Christine Ebersole, Jonathan Ward, Katrina Caspary, Lauren Stanley, and Jade Calegory. The Last Samurai: This is a true epic story of a lost soldier who winds up fighting a war in a far away land. Hired by the emperor of Japan to train his army, he is quickly captured by the Samurai he was training the army to defeat. Living amongst these great people he comes to believe in the way of the Samurai. He winds up fighting on their side, with all of his heart.
The Lost World; Jurassic Park: John Hammond has learned to bring dinosaurs back to life from their DNA. After an attempt at marketing viewing these dinosaurs goes terribly wrong, all the animals are killed and the island closed. The problem is that something has survived.
Deliverance: This is an excellent re-creation of the Dickey novel of 4 Atlanta businessmen who get more than they can handle throughout a weekend canoe trip. McKinney and Coward are 2 of the most horrifying film scoundrels in history. The “Dueling Banjos” scene is very memorable. Film debuts of Beatty and Cox. James Dickey adjusted his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff. Ed O’Neill appears as a freeway watcher near end of film. Dillinger: Rugged gangster story written by Philip Jordan. This is one of the best B films of its kind albeit a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang’s You Only Live Once. Cast includes Edmund Lowe, Anne Jeffreys, Lawrence Tierney, Eduardo Ciannelli, Elisha Chef, and Marc Lawrence. (70 minutes,’45)
Catch Me If You Can: This movie tells the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., who was a master con man. By the time he was 21 years old, he had been a doctor, a co-pilot for a major airline, and a lawyer. Check fraud is where he excelled the most, and he had swindled companies out of millions with this skill. F.B.I. agent Carl Hanratty becomes obsessed with finding and capturing Frank.
