I’m sure you know that there are hundreds or thousands of anti aging products such as anti aging creams and anti aging moisturizers on the market. Most don’t work very well however there is a more serious worry about many anti aging creams. Lots of them contain chemical ingredients and these can be damaging to your health. A fine example is one petrochemical ingredient called petrolatum.
You might know petrolatum as Vaseline. In fact Vasaeline is pure petrolatum. Other names for it are white petrolatum, petroleum jelly, petroleum wax or white petroleum or other names. Petrolatum comes from the distillation of crude oil and is what is known as a petrochemical byproduct.
There is an organisation is called the Cosmetic Safety Database and their job is to track dangerous chemical ingredients in products such as cosmetics and anti aging products. They describe petrolatum as linked to cancer, product contamination and non-reproductive toxicity. The contamination risk is serious. During various manufacturing processes there can be contamination introduced with a range of chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs. These are considered to be highly toxic and linked to cancer.
And the companies that produce these products do not test for the presence of PAHs in their products and so you are unlikely to know if they are there. Even if they are it won’t say so on the label.
So why is petrolatum used in so many skin care products and anti aging products such as anti wrinkle creams and anti aging moisturizers? There is one simple answer. It’s because petrolatum is incredibly cheap. The cheaper the ingredients you can find for the products the more profit you make. The FDA is not required to test for petrolatum or any other dangerous ingredients such as PAHs and so, because they can, the anti aging companies use them in their products.
The shame is that there are excellent and highly effective natural ingredients which are known to be very effective at improving the health of your skin and which are also extremely safe to use. But they are rarely used because they are much more expensive and reduce profit.
But it is possible to get excellent anti wrinkle creams and other anti aging products which do use these ingredients. These products are safe and highly effective and of course they are also much more expensive to make. They would be uncompetitive to buy because of the price except for one thing. They are not advertised.
The small skin care companies that produce these products cannot advertise them for this reason and so they are not commonly known despite the fact that they are extremely high quality products. For this reason it’s unlikely that you’ve even heard of them.
So there is excellent news. You can buy high quality anti aging products and if you look on the label of any of these products you won’t see petrolatum or any other chemical or petrochemical ingredients on the label. They are extremely effective, use much more expensive ingredients and deliver what is asked of them.
