Speed reading is about learning new techniques to read quicker. Once we learn to scan as kids we have a tendency to start by reading every letter individually. When we have mastered the letters we tend to then learn to put them together, always reading from left to right.

2. An on-line course. This can be the same as seminars, but the lectures are downloadable and you’ll be able to watch them in your own time. You’ll also in all probability find that the lectures are separated into smaller sections with exercises at the conclusion of each section. It is important to finish the exercises before progressing to the next section. Clearly the exercises cannot be marked, but there will be pointers thus you’ll check that you’re on the right track.

3. Books. This is the most cost effective approach to find out to speed read. Your local library will in all probability have a selection of books available. Like the web course you’ll do this at your own pace and when it suits you best. However, the net course will contain motivational material. When you’re sitting at home with a book you will want to be able to motivate yourself. This is the hardest way to find out to speed read, but the results are just as good.

Remember that when you speed read there ought to be no loss of understanding of the text you are reading. If you’re not understanding or absorbing what you’re reading then you are not doing it properly, and it is a waste of time.
