Many of us can say that they have played video games at some point. Whether it was a family friendly Wii game or one of the many stealth-based assassin games, video games have become a daily staple in the normal activities of many American homes. These Americans will spend billions of dollars every single year to stay up to date with the latest games and systems. More and more people have to keep buying because they simply cannot stop playing. They are addicted. But to what are they addicted to? Most often sufferers battle video games adrenaline addiction that keeps them from hitting the power button.

Video games release a similar concoction of chemicals as a high adrenaline situation would. For instance, when their children are in trouble, some parents are said to have super natural strength to do remarkable things. This is similar to the feelings that one can get making good decisions or life saving choices during game play.

This emotional high is usually conducive with action packed games from a first person shooter perspective. This look allows the player to feel as though it is actually them in the game making the decisions, and in the danger. This feeds out the adrenaline of anticipation and anxiety.

Not everyone who plays video games will become addicted to high adrenaline situations. Some will though, and out of those that do, some will allow the situation to get even worse. Adrenaline addiction can lead to more grounded addiction to video games in general.

It is not a far jump from the adrenaline addiction to general video gaming addiction. It presents itself much like the symptoms seen with any other kind of controlled substance addiction. Some of these signs include a hard time relating to people, excuses upon excuses to continue playing, trouble sleeping, and poor personal hygiene.

It probably sounds ludicrous, but the truth is that video games can easily be as addicting as any controlled substance. The best solution for you and your family is to keep the amount of gaming to natural (all agreed upon) limits. This will help you keep what’s important, important.
