The good news is there are two US FDA approved drugs that have been shown to have positive effects on hair loss. The second drug approved by the US FDA as a treatment for hair thinning and balding is Minoxidil. This drug was also shown to have a positive effect on hair loss while trials were being conducted on another condition. Minoxidil is a vasodilator medication which means it helps to make the tiny blood vessels in the body larger which in turn lowers high blood pressure.
This apparently also allows for more blood supply to reach the hair follicles and thus increase hair growth. Minoxidil is applied topically, that is it rubbed into the scalp, on a daily basis. This drug does seem to be safe for both women and men which is great news for female pattern baldness sufferers.
Both of these drugs have been shown conclusively to have positive effects on pattern baldness.
