Guerilla Tactics For Cardiovascular Exercise

Cardiovascular exercise is a great tool for maximizing the oxidation of fat cells and for increasing the health of your arteries.

The key here, however, is not doing countless hours of cardio in the hopes of getting better results.

After all, overdoing your cardio can break down your body again and again. So here is how to turn your regular cardio into caveman cardio:

1. Use the upright position often: Stationary bikes are comfortable, but not as effective as treadmills and other devices of the upright position. Because of biomechanics, doing exercise in the upright position burns more fat.

2. Break it up: Do the same thing over and over again and cardio will seem like a torturous chore. Instead, bounce from one modality to another. Doing so will prevent your body from adapting and will keep your mind from becoming ultra bored. For increased results, stick to treadmill-like movements.

3. Do cardio after weights: Studies have shown that when cardio is done after weight lifting, you burn more fat. One explanation here is that you burn stored carbohydrates when doing weight lifting and by the time you hit the treadmill there is only fat left for burning.

4. Increase the intensity: Low intensity cardio has its place for enhancing recovery. However, if you want to maximize results per unit of time, stick with very high intensity cardio. If you don’t like the thought of going all out for extended periods of time, have short rest intervals of low intensity cardio mixed in with your high intensity cardio.

5. Stick with slow digesting carbs: Lots of athletes will have a muffin or sugar-laden serving of cereal before doing cardio. Unfortunately, this approach will leave you with subpar levels of energy. Instead, stick with sources of carbohydrates that digest slowly for optimal energy.

Do you enjoy doing cardio? If you don’t, start implementing the above techniques so that it is no longer a chore. And take action on this information today, don’t wait until tomorrow!
