The Fair and White Product lines by the Labo Derma company in France are widespread internationally, although most products may be hard to obtain and expensive. Most of these products are customized for the needs of ethnic and colored skins and are known to reduce skin blemishes and even out skin tones. These products also help eradicate brown spots and other forms of pigmentation. Among its most famous product is its Whitening Cream that contains what they call the “F.A.W. Lightening” formula.

Hydroquinone may be present in Fair and White products. That ingredient – being effective as a skin lightener – was found to be harmful when used for a long time despite. The Fair and White Whitening Cream contains it in a small amount of 1.9%.

There are other ingredients in the Whitening Cream of Fair and White that may cause certain risks when used for a long time. These ingredients include propylene glycol, stearic acid, and methylparaben. They are also found in other cosmetic products and with uncontrolled concentrations, they may cause unwanted side effects.

Stearic acid is a byproduct from fatty substances that are derived from pig stomachs as well as from fat coming from cows, sheep, cats and dogs. It is commonly used in cosmetics such as deodorants, creams, conditioners, hairspray, lubricants and soap among others and can cause skin irritations even when it occurs at low concentrations.

Meanwhile, propylene glycol is a non-toxic chemical that can be used for cosmetic products at concentrations of up to 50 percent. But the substance is still under study for potential carcinogenic properties.

Finally, methylparaben has also been proven to raise skin toxicity when dosage is not regulated. Citro tests administered on mammalian cells also show that the ingredient can cause cell mutation.
