Effective Treatment of Back Acne

Because it is not as visible as acne that appears on the face, people who have back acne are often not as concerned about it. As well, the less sensitive skin on the back means that the pain and discomfort, at least in the initial stages of the problem, are less. But it’s important that you take steps to clear up your back acne as soon as possible, because it can grow to the proportions of being a major health problem and even affect your mobility.

While acne in teenagers is caused by hormonal changes in the body, acne that occurs in adults, including back acne, is caused by a number of factors, including excess oil collection in the pores and blockage of the pores by dirt. Bathing the back at least once and preferably twice a day to remove dirt and oil is very important for avoiding or treating back acne.

Unfortunately, this is one of the hardest areas of the body to clean because reaching it is tough. There are sponges and soft brushes with handles available, so that you can thoroughly wash your back. Be careful not to scrub the affected area too hard because this will cause the pimples to burst, which can lead to the skin getting infected and the acne spreading to a larger area.

Using an over the counter soap or body wash product formulated specifically for acne prone skin is recommended. Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are the active ingredients in the most highly recommended cleansing products. As products containing these compounds can cause skin irritation, experiment with those that are less harsh initially. If the mild formulations do not work, try the stronger ones, and if there is still no reduction in the acne, try one of the over the counter lotions or gels in addition to the cleaning products.

Food can often contribute to the occurrence of acne so consult a nutrition guide and modify your diet to make it as healthful as possible. Including chromium along with your multivitamin supplement each day is a good idea, because chromium has been shown to be effective in the treatment of many types of skin infections.

You will also want to avoid wearing rough fabrics that could chafe the skin on the back and cause the pustules to break open. If all these steps do not help, then you will need to consult a dermatologist for advice on how to clear up your back acne problem. You will probably get a prescription for a stronger medication that should give you the results you’re looking for.

Acne affects so many people these days, not just the stereotypical teenager. The good news is that, whether you’re looking for an acne home cure or are interested in laser treatment, there are many ways of curing acne.
