Can Self Hypnosis Work To Quit Smoking?

You may be someone who wants to quit smoking and identify yourself as a new non-smoker instead of as an ex-smoker. Even after they have intentionally kicked the habit, an ex-smoker will continue to want a cigarette for a long, long time. This makes the ex-smoker vulnerable to starting again. The new non-smoker is different in that this is a person who has retrained or programmed the mind differently so that there is no craving for a cigarette. The ex-smoker is still struggling with the desire to smoke in an ongoing battle, whereas the non-smoker is forever liberated.

Whether it’s about sex or smoking, the addiction seems to have its own existence. It actually lives in the unconscious mind of the person. The addiction appears to grow more powerful, almost like a living thing. It’s possible to stop addiction for sometimes a long time, but that addiction survives, hidden away, ready to re-emerge if given the opportunity. If a person succumbs to these pressures, they are likely to return to the former habits of doing what has worked in the past.

How exactly does hypnosis aid in the ending of addiction? It works because of the fact that addiction actually resides in the unconscious mind and that’s where it has to be attacked. Or, to be more precise, the unconscious has to be trained in a different way to cope with stress in a healthier and more positive way. In the beginning, hypnosis will relax you and put you in a state that is almost like a trance.

After achieving this trance state your unconscious mind becomes accessible. This opens the way to reprogramming that will start to alter the unconscious mind. If the retraining is successful, observable changes could be apparent very soon after starting the program

We’ve seen the differences in the types of people who quit smoking. It’s obvious that becoming a non-smoker is preferable to being an ex-smoker. It’s great to become an ex-smoker but keep in mind that the addiction hasn’t really left completely, but is lying is wait and ready to return. You must reprogram the unconscious mind to actually make the change to becoming a non-smoker.

Self-hypnosis is an affordable way to establish your unique goals and utilize it as needed. The levels of relaxation that are achieved are very advantageous. This type of hypnosis resembles that used by modern athletes to enhance their athletic performance. It’s definitely worth your while to look further into hypnosis as a tool to use.

  1. Self hypnosis is not as easy as it sounds especially when it comes to such a difficult thing as quitting smoking. Quitting smoking requires a strong will, and unless you have a very good support group it will be extremely difficult.
