Heartburn suffers will go to almost any length to avoid this painful condition. On of the best ways is to learn which heartburn foods set off an attack and to avoid these foods in your normal meals.

Although the list of heartburn foods differ for every person, the following list are common to many different people. In addition to these foods, be sure to add to the list those foods that tend to cause heartburn for you.

High fat meats and fatty meats prepared with extra spice can trigger heartburn. Avoid marbled sirloin, ground beef, chicken nuggets and Buffalo chicken wings. The first three are high in fat, the last is high in fat and spicy.

Another group of foods that cause heart burn include sweets, oils and fats. Chocolate heads off this list as in seems to cause more heartburn than all other foods combined. Also in the list are potato and corn chips which cause problems due to the high fat content. Butter cookies are high in both fat and sugar and can cause heartburn in a number of people. Brownies and donuts can also cause flare ups for many people. Many salad dressings have fat and vinegar that can be a trigger for heartburn suffers. Anything that is fired or fatty in general can also cause problems.

Among the juices, fruits and vegetables, the following can cause that burn that just does not seem to go away. Any citrus fruit or citrus juice such as orange, lemon, grapefruit, cranberry or tomato can set off heartburn. Potatoes that are prepared with lots of fat, such as mashed potatoes or French fries, can start the burn. Raw onions are notorious for the upset that they may cause. Potato salad combines high fat from the mayonnaise, potatoes and often onion and can cause a major attack of heartburn.

Beverages to avoid include alcohol, wine, coffee and tea. Coffee, tea and wine are all highly acidic. In addition wine contains alcohol the can often make heartburn even worse for the sufferer.

Pasta can also be a trigger for some people. The most offending types of pasta are macaroni and cheese and spaghetti served with marinara sauce.

In the dairy aisle, you will want to avoid cottage cheese (4% milk fat), milkshakes, ice cream and also sour cream.

By avoiding these trigger foods you may also avoid heartburn. If you suffer major attacks, try avoiding all the foods at first, then slowly see what you can add back to your diet and still avoid heartburn.
